It’s all over here on Day 1b of the APPT Cebu Main Event from the Waterfront Hotel and Casino, with Antonio Martins well and truly the chip leader.
When the day started there were 76 players vying for a Day 2 berth. That field made to easily surpass yesterday’s 51 entrants and brings the total so far to 128 players.
Of the 76 who began with hopes of making Day 2, only 42 will return with the chance at making a run at a title. Some of those who couldn’t survive the day include Minh Nguyen, Ari Engel and Jay Tan.
As alluded to earlier, Martins is easily the chip leader, managing to bag up 119,000 in chips. Martins won most of those chips holding against an opponent’s and it was all up from there.
Joining Martins at the top of the chip counts will be 2010 Macau Poker Cup Championship winner Julian Hasse who finished on a very healthy 96,500. Martins and Hasse have surpassed the Day 1a chip leader and now sit at the top of the overall chip counts.
Also surviving Day 1a and still in fine shape includes recent APPT Seoul Final Table finisher Kenneth Wong, the reigning ANZ Player of the Year Danny Chevalier and Team PokerStars Pro's Vivian Im and Celina Lin.
Be sure to return tomorrow to continue following all the coverage from the Asia Pacific Poker Tour in Cebu as the PokerNews Live Reporting Team brings you all the action from the final and busiest Day 1 flight so far. It all starts at 12.10 pm local time, so don’t miss it!
|Xue Bin Pang||40,800|
|Mark Anthony Ortiz||33,500|
|Yoke Wei Woon||27,500|
The clock has been stopped and it has been announced that just three more hands will be played. We'll be back with full chip counts as soon as possible, but just for your information, the chip lead will either be Julian Hasse or Antonio Martins.
Julian Hasse is looking like he will be very close to being the chip leader at the end of the night. We recently saw him take down a hand holding against one opponent on a board showing .
The play has started to slow up late into the last level of the night as players hang on to their tournament lives. The most exciting thing that has happened recently is the buying up of the 25-denomination chips in anticipation of the end of the night.
Kenneth Wong started the day strong and then plateaued a bit for much of the later half of the day. The last level or so though has seen Wong move back up.
We caught a recent hand involving Wong that started when the hijack player opened it up 2,000. Wong was in the small blind and made the call, while the big blind player also came along for the ride.
The flop would see all three players check as the landed on the turn. This time Wong would not be so quiet, throwing out 3,700. Both players got out of the way and Wong took down the nice little pot.
With a few recent table breaks and so many talented players remaining in the APPT Cebu Main Event, it is no surprise that one of the tables is heavily stacked late into the day. Below is a list of the six players who make up this scary table.
|Celina Lin||PokerStars Ambassador||23,000||6,000|
With 47 players remaining late into Day 1b, here is how some of the players are currently looking.
|Kim Gap Young||22,000||-14,000|
You may remember Kim Gap Young from this event last year. He's the boyfriend of Team PokerStars Pro Vivian Im. Both made it down to three-handed play, where Vivian really turned the screws on Kim and put him to several tough decisions and eventually knocked him out in 3rd place.
The two are on separate tables today but that hasn't made things any easier for Kim. He recently became involved in a sizable pot with Ted Wang, formerly the Chinese language blogger for PokerStars. With 10,000 already in the pot on the turn, , Ted bet 8,500. Kim studied his hand before squeezing calling chips from between his thumb and forefinger and into the pot.
The river completed several different draws. Ted thoughtfully tapped a chip on tap of his stack, indicating a check. Kim checked behind, then sighed and mucked as Ted revealed for top two pair.
