Mark Dube is the man to catch going into Day 2 of the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em event after turning his 4,500 starting stack into a tournament leading stack of 160,300 over the course of 11 hours of play.

Dube has already cashed twice at the 2014 World Series of Poker, a 380th place finish in Event #8 and an 84th place in Event #15, and is almost guaranteed to make it three in the money finishes due to his monster stack and the fact there are 178 players returning on Thursday and 171 of those will be paid.

Joining Dube at the top end of the chip counts is Dan Smith, who bought into the tournament at the last possible moment and ran his stack up to an impressive 132,800. Smith was already cruising when he won a massive flip with {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} versus {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades} to boost his stack to 127,500. He then added a few extra chips to his stack during the last few hands of night.

Other notables who punched their ticket for Day 2 include Travell Thomas (88,000), Martin Finger (85,700), Mike McDonald (81,900), Max Silver (80,100), Scott Clements (75,100), Darren Elias (52,400), Brandon Cantu (50,400), Jude Ainsworth (36,400) and 13-time WSOP champion Phil Hellmuth (34,600).

Plenty of big names failed to progress to Thursday’s second day of play. These included Allen Kessler, Barry Greenstein, Dan Kelly, Maria Ho, Dominik Nitsche, Stephen Chidwick, Joseph Cheong, Michael Mizrachi and Jason Mercier.

Day 2 commences at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday and the money bubble should burst within the first level of play. The plan is to then attempt to whittle the field down as close to the nine-handed final table as possible.

It should be another amazing day of poker so make sure you return to PokerNews.com on Thursday afternoon to keep up with all of the action, as it happens, from Event #26 of the 2014 WSOP.

Moohaha Busts

• Līmenis 11: 500-1,000, 100 ante

Justin Morgenstern has just busted. We didn’t see the hand but Travell Thomas took great delight in telling the story even though he didn’t get his chips.

The flop was {6-}{9-}{4-} and Morgenstern was all in with {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} with a backdoor flush draw. Chris Symesko had Morgenstern trapped with his flopped set of sixes — {6-}{6-}. The turn did bring the {k-Hearts}, but the river bricked out.

Davenport Shoves on McDonald

• Līmenis 11: 500-1,000, 100 ante

The player under the gun limped in for 1,000 and when the action folded to Mike McDonald on the button he raised to 2,000. The small blind folded, but Matt Davenport raised all-in for around 23,000 from the big blind.

The under the gun player tank-folded and McDonald's cards hit the much soon after.

Late Night Hellmuth

"Thirty five hundred boys, it's getting late." Phil Hellmuth declared flicking out the chips from under the gun.

The rest of the table folded and Hellmuth collected the blinds and antes.

Hellmuth turned over {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} saying, "No need to mess around late in the game boys."

To prove his point Hellmuth folded his big blind in the next hand to a raise.

Smith With a Big Double

• Līmenis 11: 500-1,000, 100 ante

Dan Smith battled from the cutoff with the player in the small blind to get it all in preflop. Smith was at risk and behind with the {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} versus the {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} of his opponent. It was a huge flip for a 125,000-plus pot.

The flop came {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Smith jumped into the lead. The board completed {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and Smith now has what I believe they call "chirpin' chips"

Kessler Knocked Out

• Līmenis 11: 500-1,000, 100 ante

Allen Kessler's tournament has ended around 27 places short of the money after his {A-Hearts}{7-Spades} couldn't get there against {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. The final board read {J-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Kessler collected his belongings and made a beeline for the exits.

Breaking Bad

• Līmenis 11: 500-1,000, 100 ante

Tables are breaking as we lose players and one of those tables was Phil Hellmuth’s table that included Justin Morgenstern, “The Real Moohaha.”

Morgenstern is now sat to the right of Travell Thomas and he may just well have met his match in the talking stakes. Thomas was straight in there engaging him in talk, telling him to get another drink and asking where he played cash promising to be there. If anyone can out talk Moohaha our money is on Thomas.

Morgenstern also seems to have brought the security guard along with him to keep an eye on things.
